JEFFREY A. STEIN, Senior Staff Palynologist (Ph.D., Stanford University)
Jeff joined NPS in January 2003, bringing over 23 years of Petroleum Industry experience in palynological applications relating to exploration and production. He offers a wide range of biostratigraphic services, from expert sample analysis to multidisciplinary data integration and project management. Areas of expertise include:
- Reservoir Characterization: using detailed, quantitative palynofacies criteria to identify stacked depositional units within reservoir intervals. Offers high-resolution stratigraphic control useful in developing reservoir models. This approach has proven to have broad applicability, particularly in providing detailed schemes for the complex Miocene/Pliocene turbidite reservoirs encountered in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Palynostratigraphic Analysis: specializing in Upper Cretaceous - Tertiary marine palynology with extensive knowledge of the fossil assemblages and age correlation schemes applied in Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Gulf of Mexico (Wilcox-Miocene), Interior North America (Woodbine, Tuscaloosa, Muddy, Frontier fms.), North Sea Paleogene and Cretaceous.
- Biostratigraphic Synthesis and Integration: knowledgeable in the application of lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic schemes conventional to most petroleum provinces. Experienced with large biostratigraphic databases as a practitioner of quantitative synthesis using graphic correlation techniques to develop multidisciplinary composite standards.
